Starting up.

We planned this photo trip before scheduling our sabbatical to Australia and New Zealand and then ended up with only 2 weeks between the trips. Great opportunity to break in hiking boots and a new camera - Canon EOS 5D Mark II. The secret to good photos - no sleep. Arise well before sunrise and stay up well after sunset so you're ready for the magic light. This was taken a few minutes after sunrise in Monument Valley. If you want a great photo experience with emphasis on the photography, check out Jim Altengarten's photography workshops at exposure36.com

  1. Always been a problem for me, getting up before dawn, which I guess is why I'm not a world-class photographer...

    Great picture, BTW.

  2. The other secret is to stay up all night and watch the sunrise.
